It is finished! Project #1 is done!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I really dislike this hexi blanket. However, my family likes it so it will stay around. But I’m still really celebrating finishing this blanket…. so I’ll say it again:
Project #1 is Done!
Lessons Learned
I learned a few things while working on it and thought these lessons might help you, too.
- If you start something and it feels wrong, stop until you figure out why it feels wrong!
- Finish all the squares, hexagons, motifs, etc, in a blanket before you start joining them. Especially in a scrap blanket. How you do the layout can make all the difference.
- Red is not always a great border color for scrap hexi blankets. White, black, gray, and navy all make great border colors for a join-as-you-go scrap blanket. Red often doesn’t do the blanket justice. (I think black would have worked much better.)
- It is ok to pin the motifs together with safety pins. This will help to keep you headed in the right direction.
This hexi blanket does have a redeeming quality: It is super soft and the perfect size for me to use while snuggling with one of the grandbabies on the couch while reading a book.
On to Project #2
Whew! I have finished the elephant in the line-up and I am now headed to greener pastures. The next project I am working on is this one shown below.
I have a collection of small granny squares and centers. I started these squares as samples while trying out new granny square patterns. They were fun to make, but not fun enough to make me want to crochet a blanket full of them.
It looks like I have an overabundance of purple squares, but really, there is a pretty good balance of all the colors. I am hoping it will turn out like this one (below) from several years ago. It will probably only be a lap-sized blanket.
Off to Crochet!
This one will really go fast as I am starting with so many of the squares already about 4-5 rows completed. I like the bigger squares and will crochet them together with the white.
My plan is to get this one done this week and move on to another project that has been buzzing around in my head.
